The Association of Conflict Resolution Environment and Public Policy Section hosted a webinar on May 7 with Heidi and Guy Burgess, founders of Beyond Intractability, which started in 2000, and former directors of the University of Colorado Conflict Information Consortium which started in 1988.  Known for their long commitment to bridge-building, Guy and Heidi explored the ways hyper-polarization presents unique challenges to conflict resolution processes.

Our inability to constructively handle intractable conflict is the most serious, and the most neglected, problem facing humanity. Solving today's tough problems depends upon finding better ways of dealing with these very challenging conflicts.

In the webinar we explored:

• How can bridge-building and consensus-building function as worthwhile endeavors when democratic laws and practices are challenged daily?

• How can we put our conflict resolution skills and knowledge to use in creating a democracy that works for everyone?
